Rundle, Robert

Born in England, Robert Rundle was introduced to the church at an early age. His grandfather was a Methodist minister, and his uncle was a Reverend. In 1837 Robert entered business school, only to choose the ministry after two years of University. In 1840 Rundle left England for North America and found himself at Fort Edmonton after a tough journey across the country.

For the next 8 years, Robert spent most of his time travelling throughout the province, bringing his religious message to the people at different places. During this time he met many Aboriginal tribes and learned their languages. Tragically, in 1847 Reverend Rundle took a bad fall from his horse, seriously injuring his arm. When his arm did not heal properly, he returned home to England to seek proper medical attention. He never returned to Alberta and remained in England until his death in 1887.
