Buffalo Jump

If you decided to ride a skateboard or bike off this jump you would probably die! This particular jump was used to kill animals not people! This was a way for the Native peoples to kill a large number of buffalo at once by chasing them over a high cliff. The cliff was called a "buffalo jump". Hunters would frighten the buffalo herd over the cliff and any animals not killed by the fall, would be killed by hunters waiting below. There are more than 250 buffalo jumps in Alberta. One of the most well known jumps in Alberta is called "Head-Smashed-In" and is located in southern Alberta.
