Settlers

A person who settles in a new country or area is called a settler. They are not tourists on vacation; they go to these places to live permanently. Settlers came to Canada and Alberta from all over the world. For some, such as the British and Americans, getting used to their new homeland was not difficult. They already spoke English and had been farming the same type of land. It was not as easy for the settlers from other countries. They did not speak English and had no idea what the land or people were like until they arrived. Most of the time these people arrived with only a few belongings from their old homes. It was very hard on them because they had to find food, shelter, and clothing for their families until they built their house and started farming.
