Stephansson, Stephen G.

Stephan G. Stephansson was born in Iceland (a country in Europe) in 1853 and died at Markerville, Alberta in 1927. He has been called the greatest poet of the western world. During the seventy three years of his life, he published more than two thousand pages.

Stephansson was a farmer, working from early morning to late evening clearing the land, pulling roots, ploughing, seeding, and threshing. But he still found time to write his poetry.

In 1976 the government of Alberta honoured him by making his house into a Provincial Historic site.
