People of the Boreal Forest Photo Gallery
This gallery of photographs taken by Terry Garvin over a period of 50 years is a dynamic part of the People of the Boreal Forest Website, which is part of the Alberta Online Encyclopedia. The site was developed as an Aboriginal Centennial project by the Heritage Community Foundation in partnership with Terry Garvin and the Aseniwuche Winewak First Nation. Funding support was provided by Alberta Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development (now Alberta Aboriginal Relations).

 is on his way from his home in Fort Chipewyan to the Spring camp of Louie Martin, Elise Lapine, and Madeleine Whiteknife. During the early years (1942) of World War II, a balloon sent by the Japanese military landed on Rod's trapline, causing a flurry of activity by the Canadian military and the R.C.M.P. Apparently, this was a trial balloon as nothing dangerous was found in it. Rod worked for the department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development. , and Syncrude was in the process of constructing an oilsands plant on the land which included Orr's trapline. Syncrude and Orr negotiated a loss of livelihood compensation agreement based on information collected from Orr over a five year period (1977-1982). Orr was compensated for the loss of all his trapline interests, except his main home cabin which was close to Fort McKay. The government of Alberta awarded Orr a trapline license on property that was not in any immediate threat of being developed by oil interests.
