Paddy's Flat

Category : Flats

This flat, officially named 5 December 1984, takes its name from Patrick (Paddy) McCarthy, who came to the area in the 1920s. In June 1929, he was employed as a teamster by Herron Petroleum which was drilling a well on the flat. In December 1930, the well was closed down and Paddy was made caretaker until such time as the well was reopened. Paddy remained at the well for over ten years until 1942, when he returned to Winnipeg, where he later died.
