Police Flats

Category : Flats

This spot hidden in the hills at the eastern end of the Crowsnest Pass was a favourite stopping place for cattle rustlers to rest their stolen cattle before they were transported to be sold in the United States. To combat rustling, the North West Mounted Police established a post on the flat in the late 1870s, shortly after the founding of Fort Macleod. Since that time, the name Police Flats has been attached to this feature. The name was officially approved 21 July 1982, and is still known locally as an historical name.
