Grain Dryer (Patent No: 641121)

Inventor: Maksymec, Andy

Location: Egremont

Comments: N/A

Description:
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:

(1) A grain drier comprising in combination a substantially rectangular supporting framework, a substantially cylindrical drying chamber supported horizontally on said supporting framework, the upper side of said drying chamber being open, means attached to said drying chamber adapted to deliver a metered amount of grain to said drying chamber, a source of heat under said drying chamber, screened opening means in the side walls of said drying chamber adapted to route heated air from said source of heat into said drying chamber, horizontally supported grain agitating means journalled for rotation within said drying chamber, means in the base of said drying chamber adapted selectively to discharge grain from said drying chamber, a horizontally disposed auger under said drying chamber adapted to receive said discharged grain, a cooling chamber adjacent one end of said drying chamber and supported in said framework, auger means connecting the discharge end of said horizontally disposed auger to said cooling chamber, a source of cooling air supported on said framework and communicating with said cooling chamber, means on said framework adapted selectively to discharge grain from said cooling chamber and a source of power operatively connected selectively to said horizontally disposed auger, said augers means, said source of cooling air, and said means to discharge grain from said cooling chamber, said source of power being also operatively connected to said agitating means.

(2) The device according to Claim 1 in which said means attached to said drying chamber adapted to deliver metered amount of grain to said drying chamber elongated hopper, a discharge flap in the base thereof, a delivery flap in the wall of said drying chamber adjacent said hopper, an elongated duct connecting between said flaps, and lever and linkage means connecting said flaps and adapted to open and close both flaps concurrently.

(3) The device according to Claim 1 in which said grain agitating means in said drying chamber comprises a centrally located horizontal spindle journalled for rotation in each end of said drying chamber, a plurality of radially extending arms adjacent each end of said spindle and within
said drying chamber, a plurality of' elongated grain pick-up and-dumping scoops secured to the outer ends of said arms and flange plates adjustably secured to said scoops, said plates being adjustable for wiping engagement with the inner surface of said drying chamber.

(4) The device according to Claim 2 in which said grain agitating means in said drying chamber comprises a centrally located horizontal spindle journalled for rotation in each end of said drying chamber, a plurality of radially extending arms adjacent each end of said spindle and within said drying chamber, a plurality of elongated grain pick-up and-dumping scoops secured to the outer ends of said arms and flange plates adjustably secured to said scoops, said plates being adjustable for wiping engagement with the inner surface of said drying chamber.

(5) Thee device according to Claim 1 in which said cooling chamber comprises a substantially box like container of screened material, an inverted frustro-conical base on said container also of screened material, an air distributing enclosure located centrally within said cooling chamber also of screened material, said source of cooled air communicating with the interior of said air distribution enclosure, said means to discharge grain from said cooling chamber connecting with the base of said cooling chamber, said auger means extending between the discharge end of said horizontally disposed auger and said cooling chamber, positioned to discharge grain onto said enclosure.

(6) The device according to Claim 2 in which said cooling chamber comprises a substantially box like container of screened material, an inverted frustro-conical base on said container also of screened material, an air distributing enclosure located centrally within said cooling chamber also of screened material, said source of cooled air communicating with the interior of said air distribution enclosure, said means to discharge grain from said cooling chamber connecting with the base of said cooling chamber, said auger means extending between the discharge end of said horizontally disposed auger and said cooling chamber, positioned to discharge grain onto said enclosure.

(7) The device according to Claim 3 in which said cooling chamber comprises a substantially box like container of screened material, an inverted frustro-conical base on said container also of screened material, an air distributing enclosure located centrally within said cooling chamber also of screened material, said source of cooled air communicating With the interior or said air distribution enclosure, said means to discharge grain from said cooling chamber connecting with the base of said cooling chamber, said auger means extending between the discharge end of said horizontally disposed auger and said cooling chamber, positioned to discharge grain onto said enclosure.

(8) The device according to Claim 4 in which said cooling chamber comprises a substantially box like container of screened material, an inverted frustro-conical base on said container also of screened material, an air distributing enclosure located centrally within said cooling chamber also of screened material, said source of cooled air communicating with the interior of said air distribution enclosure, said means to discharge grain from said cooling chamber connecting with the base of said cooling chamber, said auger means extending between the discharge end of said horizontally disposed auger and said cooling chamber, positioned to discharge grain onto said enclosure.
