Description:

The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:


1. In a gauge for marking a cutting line on tiles when laying tile of known dimensions on a surface, a telescoping handle member including means to secure the handle member in an adjusted position, a straight edge fixed substantially centrally at each end of the handle member, such straight edges being in substantially parallel relationship, one of the straight edges being formed to have reduced contact with the surface on which the tile is to be laid.


2. The gauge as claimed in Claim I wherein the straight edge formed to have a reduced contact area includes a shelf to which the end of the handle is attached, a substantially vertical wall extending downwardly from one edge of the shelf and a foot projecting from the lower edge of the wall and away from the shelf.


3. The gauge as claimed in Claim I wherein the straight edge formed to have reduced contact with the surface is turned downwardly at its opposite ends so that the down turned ends of the straight edge will be in contact with the surface and the remainder of the straight edge will be raised above the surface.
