Office of the President

University Hall

The President, who is also the Vice-Chancellor and the chief executive officer of the University of Alberta, is appointed by the Board of Governors. Once appointed, the President is an ex officio member of the Board of Governors, the Senate, and all Faculty councils. The President also chairs meetings of the General Faculties Council and the Deans' Council.

It is the President's responsibility to fulfill the vision and mission of the University of Alberta and to supervise and direct the operation of the University, including its business affairs, academic work, and instructional and ancillary staff, including all deans and librarians and the Registrar.

The President reports annually to the Board of Governors and the Senate on the academic work of the University. At this time, the President may make recommendations on any matter affecting the University.
