The Muse Project

Developed in 2002 by the University of Alberta’s Department of Museums and Collections, the Muse Project is an award-winning curriculum-based program for teachers and their students. It introduces students to the University of Alberta Museums, the research process, and the purpose of collection at the University. The Muse Project allows students and teachers alike to explore the wonders of primary source research. With 35 collections housing over 20 million objects to draw on, the Muse Project offers a wide range of interdisciplinary research areas for young and enquiring minds in natural and applied sciences and human history.

The Muse Project begins with students spending 2.5 hours on campus for an interactive Discovery Tour. During that tour, students visit a number of Discovery Sites, interactive micro-museum environments located throughout campus and some located directly in the collections. Students then take a Discovery Kit back to the classroom for further investigation and also explore resources available on the Muse Project web site.
