U of A prize-winner explores Japanese literature
Valerie Henitiuk, who received her PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Alberta in 2005, has a deep interest in exploring different world translations of Japanese texts, including English, German, and Spanish versions. Before returning to university to work towards her PhD, she earned a masters degree in French literary translation and worked for several years as a translator for the Alberta government.

The SSHRC Postdoctoral Prize is awarded annually to the most outstanding SSHRC postdoctoral fellowship recipient.

Dr Valerie Henitiuk holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Alberta and is a visiting scholar at Columbia University. She is investigating the spread of Japanese culture across the world. Henitiuk also has degrees in Japanese and French.
