Edmonton's Little Italy

Italian pavillion at Heritage Days in Edmonton, 2002. Photo by Cindy Ewanus of the Heritage Community Foundation.Italian immigrants and subsequent generations have shaped and influenced Canadian life. They have had a large effect on the social, political and economic climate of the province of Alberta. Three sections showcase the Italian people of Alberta and their lifeways.

In the Cultural Life section we use recent stories to show how the present has built on what has happened in the past, and how Canadian life has been shaped and influenced by Italian immigrants and subsequent generations.

In Issues and Challenges we discover through feature articles and essays some of the challenges faced by members of the Italian community as they worked to make a new home for themselves in the Province.

The selections from the Il Congresso archives are a valuable source of information about the life of not only Edmonton's Italian community but also that of Calgary and Lethbridge.  Events in Italy impacting on Canadians are also explored.
