Edmonton's Little Italy

Canada andThe Italian Centre Shop in Edmonton is commonly referred to as "Spinelli's" because it is owned and operated by the Spinelli family. Alberta, as well as local communities in Alberta, have been noticeably enriched by Italian immigrants and subsequent generations.  This is not an influence that is felt immediately but is, rather, the effect of people living together over a number of years and sometimes overcoming hardships together.  It is difficult to address adequately the various aspects of the cultural heritage of an ethnocultural community.  Is the focus what is brought from the homeland or what is created on Canadian soil?  The Cultural Life section of the Celebrating Alberta's Italian Community website provides information on some aspects of both through the following topics:  customs & traditions, religion, sports & recreation, the arts, learning, Canadian life, community identity, societies, and festivals.
