Alessandro Urso was born in Avola, Siracusa, Sicily in February 7th, 1944 and Lina (nee Annicchiarico) was born in Zungoli, Avellino, Campania, in March 9th, 1951. He was trained as a chemical engineer and has worked in the area of environmental protection (particularly water pollution) for the Government of Alberta as well as the private-sector. Lina is a housewife and mother. 

Both of them have been involved in the Italian community and Alessandro was the founder of the Il Congresso newspaper. It was initiated through the National Congress of Italian-Canadians, Edmonton District, which provided seed funding for 9 months and, subsequently it became a commercial enterprise.
