At its 2002 Gala held in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and Education Scholarships, the Society honored Fr. Giovanni Bonelli, one of the founding fathers of the Santa Maria Goretti Parish in Edmonton.

One of the goals of the Italian Women's Society is to help preserve and promote the Italian language and culture.  It strives to do this through its established scholarships and links with the School Board and University of Alberta.
