The National Congress of Italian-Canadians, Edmonton
District was established in 1979 and is
allied with the Alberta Region Congress and also with the national
parent organization. The Congress, at the local level, is the umbrella
organization of the Italian community and serves as a vehicle for
communication and co-operation.
Our Aims
- To find ways and means for nurturing the cultural identity of
Canadians of Italian descent in order to build a stronger
Edmonton, Alberta and Canada.
- To ensure that Italian immigration history is recorded and
shared with the Italian community of Edmonton and the community at
large.
- To ensure that the diverse ethno-cultural makeup of our city,
province and country is acknowledged by citizens and government
alike in the interest of all.
- To find ways to bring together ethno-cultural communities and
the cultural mainstream so that ethno-cultural concerns are not
viewed as a minority interest.
- To promote the integration of Italian-Canadian culture into the
life of Edmonton. The Board thinks that it is imperative to focus
on what unites us as citizens of Canada rather than what divides
us.
