Their memories of the town life:

  • Attilio divided his life between work and friends. They use to meet at local hunters club were they played chess and checkboard. On Sundays they played soccer with teams of neighbouring villages.
  • Stella spent her time in the company of the nuns. Her life was surrounded by church activities and their celebrations.
  • They remember the celebration of the "immacolata Concezione' with the two competitive musical bands; Sant'Antonio on June 13; San Pietro e Paolo and the most dear celebration the Corpus Domini. During these celebrations the people erected altars on each corner of the town.

Their life together:

  • Attilio and Stella married in a simple ceremony amongst friends and family.
  • Because of a hip injury Attilio could not work any longer as a carpenter and started a new business selling wood.
  • He continuously travelled in the south of Italy with not much profit. Following the failure of a contract with the local government for the deforestation of an area, because there was a need for a huge amount of money to start the work, he decided to drop everything and move to Canada.
  • Stella's brother sponsored them. Everybody was against this move, from their dearest friends, to the chief of police, and even Attilio's brother.
  • Stellla and Attilio leave from Naples in 1949 on the ship "Vulcania". The first born, Emilio, is with them while Stella is expecting, Pasqualino, that will be born in Canada. They reach New York where they stay a few days with some relatives. The first impression of America is favourable, and they continue travelling.
