Vic Hawkins

e-dition - Volume 24 Number 17

Vic Hawkins

(17 Years)

By Jo Snyder

Vic Hawkins was the University's only electrician for the last 17 years and brought, according to his co-workers, a new level of experitse to physical plant. "I was doing contract work for the University and thought this would be a great place to work. When the University electrican retired, I applied and well, it's been a great 17 years," he said. As the only electrician, Hawkins had to deal with the entire University, in addition to contractors and consultants.

For Hawkins, the best part has been "working with faculty and staff, and getting involved with the electrical planning off projects over the years.I have too many memories to list, but they are all great!"  He says he will miss all the people here at the University, especially "the jokes and kidding around with the guys in the shops."

Hawkins has been married for 40 years and has three sons, one of whom is also an electrician. Remarking that he may be the only honest person when he says he is looking forward to sleeping in during his retirement, Hawkins will also spend time enjoying his cabin in Lake of the Woods, that is ironically, electricity free!
