Top Marks in Student Survey:
Best in Canada When Students Asked to Recommend UWinnipeg

By Robin Alford

Students at The University of Winnipeg are more likely to recommend their school to a friend or colleague than any other university in Canada, according to a recent survey published in April 2, 2007 edition of Maclean's. Some 95 per cent of UWinnipeg students, who participated in this year's Canadian Undergraduate Survey Consortium (CUSC) survey, responded positively when asked whether they would recommend UWinnipeg to others.

UWinnipeg Rated 1st or 2nd Across the Board
The 955 graduating students at UWinnipeg who participated in the annual survey were asked a variety of questions about specific aspects of the undergraduate experience such as quality of education, and teaching. In all categories, UWinnipeg rated first and second across the board among 23 participating universities - that included a range of primarily undergraduate and medical-doctoral institutions:

  • Would Recommend this University to Others: 95 per cent (1st out of 23)
  • Satisfied with Decision to Attend: 95 per cent (2nd)
  • Satisfied with Quality of Teaching: 94 per cent (2nd)
  • Satisfied with Overall Quality of Education: 94 per cent (2nd)
  • Academic Experience Intellectually Stimulating: 93 per cent (2nd)
  • Experience Met or Exceeded Expectations: 90 per cent (2nd)

"Once again, our students - our most valuable constituency - have shown their strong approval for the high quality of education they are receiving at The University of Winnipeg and the momentum we are building," said UWinnipeg President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Lloyd Axworthy. "This is not only a resounding endorsement of the degree programs, courses and student services we offer. It is proof that our faculty and instructors are among the best in Canada. They should be very proud of this accomplishment and I congratulate them for their efforts."

Commitment & Dedication of Faculty
The University of Winnipeg has a track record of strong reviews from its students and graduates. In the Globe and Mail 2006 Report Card, UWinnipeg earned an A+ for class sizes, and As for quality of education, faculty availability outside classroom hours and faculty knowledge of subjects.

"These student surveys demonstrate to the whole country that the commitment and dedication of our professors, lecturers and researchers are second to none," said Vice-President (Academic) Dr. Brian Stevenson. "I thank everyone who has had a part in generating such strong student loyalty and high academic standards."
