Neil Harris Remembered:
Bramwell Tovey Co-hosts Fundraising Concert

Bramwell ToveyFormer Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra conductor Bramwell Tovey is returning to Winnipeg to co-host a special concert to raise funds for the Neil Harris Bursary at The University of Winnipeg.  Maestro Tovey is Conductor Laureate, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and Musical Director of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

“Remembering Neil: A Tribute to Neil Harris” will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive in west Winnipeg.

Co-hosted by Andrea Ratuski, the event will feature some of Winnipeg’s finest musical performers celebrating the life of the late Neil Harris through music and song.  Maestro Tovey graciously offered to travel to Winnipeg, at his own expense, to be part of this memorable evening. As well, all of the performers—Gwen Hoebig, Ron Paley, Bison Men’s Choir, Zane Zalis and Prodigy, members of The Winnipeg Singers, and Debbie and Jerry Maslowsky— are donating their services.

Concert proceeds will go to support the Neil Harris Bursary at The University of Winnipeg.  The fund was established in 2004 by Mr. Harris’ family and friends to help promising students at the University.

Neil Harris, who lost his battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease in 2000, is remembered as a talented musician, composer, architect, teacher, TV producer and performer, filmmaker, playwright, musical theatre director, music reviewer, and great friend of the arts.  His passing left a considerable void in the Manitoba arts community; but his remarkable spirit lives on in his family and his art.

Tickets are $25 ($15 for students) and are available through the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra Box  Office at 204.949.3999 or McNally Robinson Booksellers.  Donations to the Neil Harris Bursary will be gratefully accepted by The University of Winnipeg Foundation, 705-491 Portage Ave., Winnipeg,  MB R3B 2E4 or online at www.uwinnipegfoundation.ca/donate/
