I have already changed the jets,172.5 main, and 40 pilot. It still has the slight stumble at low revs and I'm not snapping the throttle open.I think maybe blocking off the AIS may help.Is it right that a golf tee stuck in the pipe works?
I live in Wales and can't get the Barons kit over here.
Thanks
I would have to question whether or not the Accelerator pump was working correctly. It should start squirting fuel as soon as you start to twist the throttle and a good steady stream all the way thru to about 2/3rds throttle. Also what groove is the clip in on the needle? It should be the 4th groove.

Agree with all above. A decent port job on the intake manifold helps low to mid range torque noticeably. I had a lower rpm flat spot with my Longshots and K&N RA-066V air filter. Porting the manifold virtually eliminated that flat spot.
My opinion, dyno tuning a Road Star with stock internals is a waste of money at this point. The info given above is accurate, and IF you take that jetting to a dealership running a dyno, they are going to tell you the bottom end is rich. The problem with a dyno is the device can not produce front wheel rolling resistance OR wind resistance, nor does the drum produce the same inertial moment resisting acceleration as your bike with rider on board. Also, the “method” of the roll-on to produce the relative torque curve (which is all that is truly measured. Horsepower is calculated from the REAL measurement of torque) is somewhat flawed, because nobody whacks the throttle open at 30mph in 4th gear and expects to fire off to the moon immediately. Unless you just want a number to brag (or not) about, save your dyno money. You don’t need to pay someone for data you were just given for free.

The pump is working correctly.I left the needle as it was.I got the jets from a dealer in Mikuni jets here in the UK.
I haven't had time to take the bike out recently but when I do I will reset the PMS screw and the idle speed(which I suspect is too slow).
If I have to I will strip the carb down again and set the needle with the shims as you say.One last thing,is there a link with a diagrame of the carb listing the parts
Thank guys(I will now register at the new site)

When you get to the new site, look in the upper right hand corner for the login and sign up buttons. Click on the sign up and follow directions. Once registered, the new Forum will send you an email to the email addy you provide. When you follow the directions in the email, you’ll be able to post on the Forum.
We had a member named Scott from New York who was an oil smarty of sorts, but also swore by simply adding a second shim under the plastic spacer on his 1700’s, instead of messing with a multi groove. The place you bought your jets, might be able to supply the proper shims, although a proper sized washer should work the same.
Good luck Ian.

How do I register?
You register by clicking the Log In or Sign Up link near the top of the page, and then on Sign Up in the box that opens. You will be asked to choose a user name, password, and enter a valid email address. You may be asked your birth date to determine your age. In addition there will be some other fields which you will be invited to respond, some may be mandatory. Once this is complete you will either be fully registered, or in some cases you may receive an email from which you must follow a link to confirm your address and complete registration. Finally in some cases the Administrator may require a waiting period while he or she verifies your account.
You will have to agree to the terms of service or forum rules before registration can be completed. A link will be provided allowing you to review the site rules before agreeing.
Note: Entering your email address will not leave you open to "spam" as it will not be shared with other forum users, only the site staff unless you specify otherwise.
Depending how the site is configured you may be able to bypass some or all of the registration steps if you choose to "Connect with Facebook" which, if available, will connect this site with your existing Facebook account.
If you are under the age of 13 the administrator may require that a parent or guardian provide consent before allowing you to complete the registration process. More information about this is available during the registration process if required.
