Wating for my Kurykayn Pro-R Hypercharger that is supposed to come with everything to re-jet. Figured this out after I ordered a Dyno kit.

Anyway, I'm really timid about screwing with my carb and considering taking it to the dealer for re-jetting. Everyone seems to have no big problems re-jetting on their own, so I'm beginning to think about having a go at it myself. I read through the subject article in the tech section and it doesn't look too bad....a lot better than the instructions kurykayn has for the hypercharger on their web site, whihc sort of scared me off from doing it myself. I understand the article doesn't pertain to my hypercharger, but the jist of what is where and how to go about it would be about the same.

It's going on with HK big straights. Anyone think I would probably be able to do this myself as a not-so-technical and practiced non-mechanical type? I have basic tools (screwdrivers, sockets, hex, etc), nothing fancy. I enjoy working on the bike, just don't want to screw it up and have no way to get it to the dealer for fixin' if I can't get it running after my fiddlin'.

I'm leaning toward giving it a try after seeing other posts. How hard can it be? Then again, seems there are a lot of posts in the forum about jetting!

Go for it. The worst you can do is blow the bike up.

It's not that hard. It just takes a bit of patience as you sometimes have to take the carb apart a few times.

In the end you'll save some bucks for the shiny bits and in most cases, you'll end up the a better tuned carb.

You are correct, most problems are those related to jetting. But if you read through them it's mostly caused by improper jetting not because it's difficult to do. Although normally is straight forward, sometimes it is an unusual problem that requires some time to work through.

You'll always be able to get it running well enough to get it to the dealer. unless you blow the bike up.

Just building up the confidence.....though you gave me another idea.....

I wonder if the other half will buy off on a new bike if I blow this one up!

I guess I'd be right back in the same boat, ordering more stuff to start tinkering around with on it, so maybe that's not such a good idea.

I'm of the school that you learn through your mistakes ... or better yet through other people's mistakes.

I've made a few mistakes on my bike. For example I made 3 back fenders before I got it right.

Just tackle it with the viewpoint that you may make a mistake but mistakes can be corrected .... unless you blow it up. But then you can correct that mistake by buying another.

Hi Doc, I have a quick somewhat related question. My Carb was leaking over most of the summer and I ignored it for the most part because I didn want to loose the ride time and ended up with ruined paint job on my motor. I've got it ready to paint but I'm having a terrible time finding matching paint. Dealership was NO Help. Any thoughts? Gary

i think you should be able to do it. im going to try tomarrow.make sure you keep everything clean inside. i got one of those 1 gallon bucket of carb cleaner that has the small part pan in it. it also has a handle so just put your carb in the parts pan and lower it into the bucket and soak it for a couple hours before taking it a part. BE SURE TO GET ALL THE GAS OUT OF THE CARB BEFORE WORKING ON IT.
the carb should have a top and bottom, take them apart and you should be able to see the jets. i know someone is going to blow me away on these ideas i have. my carb experence is on a car. sounds like it huh. im working on a grizzly 600 and if anyone could give away advice im listening,,,please. thanks,,mhubb303
