Using Time Wisely

While you're waiting for machine work, welding, or whatever, you can get busy on other items that are much easier to do while the engine is apart:

  • You can order other parts in need of replacement.
  • You can order new valve seals, take the heads apart, send the heads out for porting, have a valve job done, or any other head related work--as needed.
  • You can order new valve cover or rocker base gaskets--the black metal ones--needed.
  • You can install a new, super-duty starter cable. See the Installing the Bulldogs-Custom Starter-Cable Kit, and a Warrior Starter article in this website for instructions and tips.
  • You can install an aftermarket ignition module. See the Installing the Dyna 3000 or SpeedStar Electronic Ignition article in this website for instructions and tips.
  • You can install a new cam engine-cover, a new timing engine-cover, or both. You know, the little engine side-covers that say, “YAMAHA” on them.
  • You can install a new generator stator and/or rec/reg. See the Replacing Your Generator Stator and Your Rectifier/Regulator article in this website for details.
  • You can begin prepping engine parts for painting, if desired.
  • You can sand, brush, prep, and paint any spots on your frame that could use some touch-up.
  • You can brush, prep, and paint any corroded or rusted bolts or nuts--especially the motor-mount bolts, nuts, and brackets. See photo below.
