Looking at your profile It seems your bike is completely stock, if so, the first thing to do is to get it breathing better with a freer flowing air filter and exhaust. then like mentioned above, install a 31 tooth primary pulley along with a 1700 ignition box.........

If you are the average age Marine in Yuma, you are probably in your early twenties. If you want speed and pep, the RoadStar won't do it. That's not the kind of bike it is. If you just want transportation and fun cruising up to Quartzsite, LHC, or over to Phoenix, then what you have is fine. Otherwise, as suggested, get a sport bike. You will put a lot of money into the R* trying to make it into something it is not.

from Sunny Phoenix, AZ its just a dry heat but you know that already

Thank You for your Service!!!

EDIT: your bike being an 04 and having power issues, you may want to research the dreaded SVS "sticky valve syndrome" that was an issue with the 04's but easily correctable with proper treatment.

I plan on putting a K&N intake system and some V&H Long Shots. In addition I'm going to get a ported manifold. How does the ignition system help? Like what does it do? Also if I buy high compression pistons, do I need to change anything else on the motor?
