Thank you everyone for saying hello. When I figure out how to post a pic, I will post my bike, although I'm sure it will look similar to a lot of other ones here.

What I said is just my opinion, of course. I also mentioned there would be those who would disagree with me. I'm surprised so few have popped up. I have seen these guys on the internet, packs of riders on Honda Silverwing 650 scooters, Suzuki Bergman 650 scooters, big Yamaha scooters....they tour on these things, ride them across the country, loaded down with shit like crazy. Of course it can be done, chalk it up to the indomitable human spirit. But if you just want to enjoy the experience, rather than the challenge of the experience, consider the alternative.

Welcome to the Clinic. As another kinda new member, I have to say that this '03 Roadstar of mine has been by far the best riding bike I've owned. Seeing as it came to me with some equipment on it like fairing, bags, and a ton of chrome, I can see myself riding from here in Texas to my sisters up in Ct. Maybe in the spring of next year. I travel pretty light anyhow. And this thing will carry a lot more than my Intruder ever did.  |

Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion. It would just be more tactful to do it someplace else, instead of when a person walks in the door for the first time and says hello. I love my bike. Its a very personal thing you know? A form of expression as an individual that I will customize to my liking. To be honest, I could have bought a BMW, GW or HD. I do have the financial means to answer your implied remark of buying a cheap poser bike out of financial destitution. As I walked around the dealer I looked at the pretty bikes and they cost 15 to 22K. The Road Star was a just sitting there for 4k. I paid for the bike and figured what the hell, I'll use the money saved for all the crap I was going to pay for anyways. I could careless about recouping my money.
That being said, Thank you all for the welcome's. If your in the Boston area and like to ride hit me up. I'll also be making a trip to Tuscon, AZ next summer if anyone wants to grab a beer along the route!

Some of us use use.com to host our photo's. It's free. Sorry if I seemed rude, I was only trying to be helpful. I just hate to see people start off on the wrong foot and spend a lot of money trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. There are many riders on this site that are happy with their creations using the Roadstar as a base. Long Range Tourers, Baggers, Choppers, Bobbers. Hell, there's a guy from England who made a 1960's style cafe racer out of one. Not to mention several that just plain defy description.
Good luck with your project. At least you know up front what you are up against. I'm probably the only person on here that would say what I said. Don't get me wrong, I love my Roadstar, had it over 4 years now. But I have no illusions about it or what it could be, I use it as it was intended to be used from the factory, with only a few modifications from stock to make it louder and change a few visual cues I thought it needed.
My apoligies also for my implied remarks as to your current financial situation. My wife has an H-D so I should be the last one to talk. I could afford a different bike too, but for what I do now this bike suits me fine and I have less than $3K in it. I'm not trying to impress anyone. My bike is a rat and I still get compliments on it at the gas station like nice Harley...ok, whatever.
