Those are awesome Drew! I’m not a card player, but appreciate the art and contribution to the game. I sent you an email.

Im kinda confused on why they would need a kickstarter. If you contact a printing company they would do it, hell plenty of online places do custom printing of all kinds of things.

Not yet, but they will be printed if the fundraising goal is reached.

Nearly all premium custom cards are funded through Kickstarter these days. The playing cards offered on Kickstarter are invariably printed in incredibly limited runs and are only available through the initial Kickstarter campaign, never to be printed again. If you miss out, you have to pay a premium for them on the secondary market. It’s a way of creating value for collectors while making decent money designing cards. The designers put a lot of work into these things.

I don't know of it's the same guy, but I recall seeing a video a number of years back, about a young guy who would make special one-off hand made playing cards, then people started asking for whole decks, so he began doing Kickstarters to raise money for a limited print run for each deck. At the time it was a passion but he wanted to see if he could make a living off it... Given the amount of time he put into them, everyone was telling him he'd never make it work...
I'll see if I can find the video...
[UPDATE]
Wow! Apparently there are A LOT of people doing this... so too many videos to bother.

I guess that makes sense for the collector side of things. I still feel like you could design these and send them to Cafe Press or something like that and get them printed pretty cheap, but that is certainly a way for the artists to truly earn money from them.
