Stator/Regulator Replacement 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I lost my stock stator after 55K miles and could not afford Yamaha parts. I went with RMStator for their high output stator and a standard r/r. After getting everything put back together the new r/r lasted around 5 minutes and smoked. RMStator sent me a new one no questions asked. The second standard r/r lasted 5 days and did the same. Went back to RMStator and after speaking with one of their techs they sent me a universal mosfet r/r at an additional cost of 40 bucks. With this new r/r I had to modify the wire harness since the new r/r looks like the Warrior r/r. 2 connectors and with it mounted on frame the connectors are on the bottom not the top like the standard r/r. I found a shop in Jersey that sales connectors pins and covers. Bought 2 covers for the connectors and put everything together. So far so good. Starts great and I see 12.9 volts at the sears diehard gold battery and 14.1 when the bike is running. I have now for the first time I can remember bright lights which is great because I commute to work everyday around 430 in the am. Just wanted to say that RMStator did not give me any issues with the bad parts. Has anyone else completed this kind of swap and if so any advise on what to look out for. This is 2001 xv1600asn (midnight star). Some pictures on how you dressed out the new connectors would be great. Thanks much in advance. If you need part numbers etc. I can supply them. I love clean power. DRKSTR

Re:mosfet upgrade 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I dug up the links I used to buy these parts. You can look into them if your interested. I was looking for some advise on what to look out for as far of problems. I did not update any of the stock diameter wire and just used bullet and but connectors for the wire connections. I used the connectors from the kit for connections to the r/r. I also soldered the connector pins after crimping. I was looking for wire covers that are not the car type. This is what I currently have on the scoot for now anyway. Does anyone have a place where I might be able to order wire covers for motorcycles? Anyway I hear my beer calling so I thought this was something to think about.

This is the r/r part number I guess.

RMSTATOR

Interesting...

... although you may have lost some people with the "mosfet" title...

I was looking for some heads up on issues I might see. So far so good. R/r never gets hot and seems to be holding its own. I thought it was a good thing to pass along. I'll see if my battery life goes from 6 months - 12 months to maybe years instead. Thanks for the comment I am new to posting anything on the NET.

that's right I shop on eBay.

Nothing wrong with that.

eBay is a hip place to shop.

I've got an over 550 feedback score since '03 from buying everything I can find on there.

Couldn't support all my hobbies without it.

I have never seen anyone recommend an aftermarket stator or other charging system parts here. Short life has been the main concern, with a few over-voltage reports.

The other thing is people have been warned away from the aftermarket charging system for so long that no one has tried them much lately, hopefully they have gotten better...

You figured out how to change the title of your post, that was good move so you are not totally lost on posting here in the forum.

As for posting, it is any easy group here. Don't be shy, and don't worry about negative comments, they are very hard to find here.

So far so good. I have been riding to work everyday without any issues until I picked up some bad fuel from local station. Added some sea foam to the tank today and will see if this clears the issue. It appears to be running fine now. Found a slight leak in my sending unit seal which I tightened up. I have not had any strange electrical issues so far. Everything seems to be working. I appreciate the comments so far and the positive comments offered. Thanks much to the group. Will keep you posted over time. DRKSTR

Once I get some pics converted I will add them to this thread.

Thanks again.

What Da F*** is mosfet?
Is that like "must fit" or "fits most"?

It's a transistor - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOSFET

Our stock R/R probably contains a few.
