Air filter 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
|
|
Hi Guys
Can anyone help me I have a 1700 Roadstar 2006 with Cobra Exhausts and a EMS fitted. I want to fit a new Air Filter because I'm not keen on the stock one will the Engine Management System correct the new set up or do I need to re Jet the Carbs. Sorry for the daft question I'm just not mechanically minded. Thank you in advance

Yeh, if you're going from the stock air box and filter to a more open, free-flowing air filter set-up, and you've already ditched the stock exhaust... you will need to rejet the one carburetor. The EMS you refer to, is for ignition only, and does not have any effect upon the carburetion.

Hey Windzup,
I installed a Hypercharger on my bike last year and also ditched the stock exhaust. I got a rejetting kit and followed instructions given to me by these great blokes in this forum. It was rather easy to do and a great feeling when you do it yourself. If you stuff it up you can always take it to a mechanic. Who knows you might get hooked and do so much more. Good luck buddy.

Really! I knew nothing about R* carbs, and tore into my first one with some trepidation, even though I consider myself to be mechanical.
That one turned out just fine, and I've done a couple of others since, and they all worked just as they should afterward.
Buy a jet kit, follow the directions with it, and it should work out just fine for you. The hardest part, if the bowl hasn't been off before, will be to get the factory fasteners off... you'll likely need to replace them, like I did, but it's worth the effort and experience for all that you'll learn!
And, the satisfaction of having done it for yourself on the cheap, and gotten good results is... priceless!
