Starter Question 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago

A little over 3 years ago the starter on my '05 Silverado crapped out. After seeing the prices of new (and used) starters, I took the cheap way out and bought a starter rebuild kit and, well, rebuilt the starter. All was good.

Three years later and still no more starter issues, but out of curiosity (and some strange feeling telling me I should) I've been checking/pricing starters. It seems that you can get starters that fit the '99-'03 1600s & the '06-'07 1700s but not the '04 & '05 1700s. And naturally, the starters for the '04s &'05s are more expensive than the others. Which brings me to my question.

What the heck did Yamaha do differently for those two years ('04-'05) than all the other years? Or am I getting bad internet search results?

Just wondering.....

As far as I know they all fit all years and are interchangeable.
