Crazy thing! I had traded a 02 Roadie when I upgraded to the 05 when they first came out. We were setting outside one night on the patio, and I heard this bike coming down a paved street, and I mentioned that "thats sounds like my bike". Sure enough got up, and stuck my head over the side fence, and it was my old bike, and How I new the bike was by the river road bags, and the cobra exhaust. The rider stopped at the stop sign, and took off again, and I just had to laugh. Bike makes a sound like no other. Like being able to hear your children and identifying with the sounds they make.

Good Thread. One sound my bike does make after warm up though, is that it pings, and knocks on takeoff, but when it is cold it is not as bad. 40,000 mile birthday coming up this fall. 35,000 mile service just done.

When I bought the bike I ran the 85 as suggested. Tried the high test, just makes the de-cell pop worse, and makes more black sooty exhausts. Went back to midgrade, and sticking with that. De-cell pop isn't too bad at 5000-6000 ft level, but get a lot of bang going over the passes at higher altitudes.

Tried looping the two lines on the smog back into each other, and that took care of the popping, but make the carb cough on throttle flips, so put the smog lines back on, and live with the deceleration backfires when I go up over wolf creek pass, or up to silverton. Those 10,000- 14,000 ft passes and just live with it.

Try to get gas at the stations that advertise a techron additive, and that always makes my dodge truck run well. If I try another brand of gas in it, man does it ping, and knock going up hills. But hey, thats a dodge for you.

One guy wanted me to go with one number hotter on the 4 plugs but will stick with the OEM plugs. They are showing a clean burn with no other signs of problems.
