Follow up: Options for RSC to continue 4 Weeks ago
Hi everyone.

I have received a good number of personal messages asking me for more input, which I committed to, but got caught up in a real serious time crunch at work over the last month. I have even less discretionary time now than I did when I started this discussion. Please accept my humble apologies for not replying.

I am targetting the end of February now to shut down the clinic. On the last day of the month, I will be disabling logins, logging any logged in users out, making final backups, and then turning the clinic off. I am sorry I haven't been able to participate more, I know how much the clinic means to everyone.

A few people have stepped forward with technical skills expressing a willingness to help. So I want the community to have the benefit of my thoughts and feelings about any continuation options (which I wholeheartedly support).

1. I don't feel like the clinic's content belongs to me. I hold it in trust, for this community. So I am willing to entertain any options that can help this community find a way to continue.

2. If this community wants to keep the clinic up, you will need to form a response the community can support. This will have to come from the community, and have clear demonstrable support and the faith of our members.

3. The content rightfully belongs on the domain "roadstarclinic.com". That is where we accepted the content, and where users who gave it to us expected it to be shown/distributed.

4. I will hand over the database backups, and the uploaded files, to a designated group who will take this content in trust for the community. I won't entertain individual offers that do not have the backing of the community.

5. Any designated recipients will have to agree to join in the use of an NDA (non-disclosure agreement - a contract) which will prohibit the redistribution of any content I hand over.

6. This designated group will have to stage and be ready to support the distribution of that content from the roadstarclinic.com domain.

7. I will retain ownership of the roadstarclinic.com domain for at least one year after that launch. If, after the year has completed, I can see that the community has a structure, the members support it, and the structure of the community has some beneficial form (like a trust), I will hand over the roadstarclinic.com domain ownership.

8. The code we use at the clinic right now will not be handed over for reuse. I will share it for others to review, but it cannot be reused. It is too old now and needs to be retired.

I have to leave the rest of this to all of you. This is a great place, and every one of you has a stake in it. Form a group that can move this forward and own it on behalf of each of you. Organize the members who are willing to help and build an organization I can hand everything over to, that assures me the members will continue to have access to the content (free), and that there is an organization in place that can keep it sustained.

I myself dont have the education to help keep this going but i can toss a few dollars at it to help keep it going. I hope we have that group of people here that can step up and run the clinic as well as you have gram. Thank you for at least considering options to keep us going and all the years and effort you put into this place. I tip my hat to you.

I don’t have the knowledge to take over the task of running this forum, but can donate funds. In case we are unable to continue the forum, what is the best way to save the tech info?

Yes, thank you very much Gram!

As for a designated group, have we appointed one? I know several people have offered to help, have we organized a list of these individuals and started discussions?

Sounds like a good plan, but action is needed.

I only really have one questions:
What format is the forum itself stored? SQL, etc.. ?

The way I'm reading it, that is EXACTLY what has to happen next. I also get the impression that he (Gram) is not going to round up the group himself, but rather is hoping the community itself will organize a group of these tech guys (who have already expressed an interest to help).
So where are these tech guys? STEP UP....CONTACT GRAM.
We also need a secondary group who are the non tech guys who have expressed interest in contributing financially. I will be part of that group.
Let's work together and make this happen!!
