Starting issue...relay? 1 Year, 6 Months ago
Ok, first...I'm not a mechanic by a LONG shot. Recently, when I go to start my bike in the morning, I get nothing but a loud, rapid clicking coming from behind the left side cover. If I rap on the cover or take the seat off and mess with the battery, it will fire up. Does it sound like my starter relay may be going bad? If not, any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

It is most likely an electrical connection issue. Check the battery and relay connections to be sure they are clean and tight.

Sounds like a dead battery. Take a multimeter and check the battery voltage.

Definitely not the battery. It's been tested.

I would say it is a connection issue. Do you have the 4 gauge battery cables on it or the old stock cables? If you have the 6ga stock cables and want to upgrade let me know I have some sets $45 shipped.

I've got the erbman wire set.

cool, your cables should be good and not the issue other than a possible loose connection

Check both the + and - side of the battery for tight. Check where the ground connects to the oil tank, for tight. Check all the connections on the starter relay for tight.
Are you checking the volatge at the battery, when pushing the start button, as well as at rest?
If everything checks out, then possibly try a different starter relay.

Mine is doing the same thing. I'm thinking it is the starter solenoid too.

That is usually an indication of a loose connection or a bad battery. As SP said check the battery voltage when pressing the starter button. My guess is that it is gonna drop like a rock to below 10v which means a bad battery. The clicking is the relay trying to do what it is supposed to do but there is not enough available voltage for it to operate properly.
