Oil Filter Cross Reference 2 Years, 11 Months ago
This thread discusses the Content article: Oil Filter Cross Reference

Hello everyone! I am new to the group and i have a question. I have a 99 roadstar silverado. I wanted a k&n oil filter because they usually make a great product and they have the option of having it come in crome. I purchased the kn-303c which is the part number the k&n website said would fit my bike which matches what is on the tech article on this forum as well. I went to install it today tightened it up the reccomeded amount and came back a few minutes later an noticed it was still dripping oil from around the seal of the new oil filter. I took the filter back off to see what was wrong and the new filter was gouged on the inside where the holes are inside of the seal area. It seems the k&n filter sticks out more on the inside than the yamaha oil filter does and will not seat properly on the seal. When you compare the two oil filters the yamaha oil filter is definitely more recessed inside of the seal. I was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem or if maybe something was possibly changed on my bike to make it not fit. Thanks for any info. In the picture i added you can see the gouge in the filter where it bottomed out on nut at the bottom of the threads for the oil filter.

I have the same filter on my bike. Just give it another small turn. Should be fine.

Yeah i checked and made sure the old seal came off with the old filter. The problem is there is a nut at the back of the threads that hits the filter and does not let the seal of the new filter make good seal. I dont know if the threads were damaged previously and the nut with threads was something hing they did to fix it. I would post pics but for some reason pictures taken from my phone are too big of a file size to post here

I have used the 303 on both a 2000 and a 2004 with no leaks. I have the opinion you should just tighten the filter a little more.
