For those of you who have done ANY kind of clutch work on our R*'s.

I need to know if any of you have felt the need to replace the "Pull lever shaft and Pull Rod" (page 5-68 of the 99-03 service manual)

I have seen many posts about the clutch frictions looking like new when changing spring (or going to Barnett.) I'm trying to get an idea of the Possible need to replace the lever and rod on my 99 (with over 70K on the clock.)

Normally, I would wait until the bike is apart and then decide, but I am in the middle of rebuilding the trans on my truck so the bike is my only transport at the moment (and the clutch is slipping.)

I don't want to throw away $100 if I don't need to, but lack of experience means I have no way to guess the odd's.

Any help appreciated.

Eve with experience, there's no way to get a look at the clutches until you get it open.

Unless the bike has been subjected to routine burnouts & jackrabbit takeoffs, ridden with a failing clutch spring for a long time or was ran with oil NOT designed for wet clutches, the stock Roadstar clutch pack DOES last a ridiculous amount of miles.

I’ve never heard of anyone having to replace those parts, but I’d get a new seal the pull shaft penetrates out the top of the engine case cover. If the shaft isn’t flopping around in its bearings, I wouldn’t worry about it.

I'm actually scared to write this in case I jinx myself.

First, the pull and shaft look like new to me, so no need to replace.

Second, the gasket came off complete in a single pull. Everything cleaned up with brake clean on a rag. I am assuming it's because the dealer did the recall about a year ago.

Maybe I should be buying lottery tickets?

My Roadstar did 120.000 km and the lever has to pull a Barnett clutch plate. There is still no reason to replace the lever/shaft.
There was a rider here who replaced the bearing thats on the shaft. But never see anyone replacing the shaft itself.
