Rough Memorial Day Weekend for the Sons of Mosby 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Five bikes down, three in the hospital, three separate accidents...

Saturday morning, not 10 minutes after rolling out for the annual Mosby Ride which we do every year the day before Rolling Thunder, we were cruising the center lane of I 66 at 55 when a cager in the right lane decides she needs to be in our lane...turns to the left causing the bike two in front of me to brake hard...the bike right in front of me brakes hard and goes down...I brake hard and start to get squirrelly...let off and was just able to swerve around Mike who is bouncing down 66...literally missing him by less than a foot...I managed to stay upright and safely come to a stop, fucking instinct, experience and the MSF Advanced Rider class are righteous guardian angels...Mike is banged up but kept riding with surprisingly little damage to the bike. After we started rolling again, I notice that a piece of flying debris hit my driving light/turn signal and both are hanging by the wires. That was it for me, turned back...when I got to the hotel, I took it all apart and the threaded stud that links the lights was split right in half and there wasn't enough thread upper or lower to catch both nacelles...duct tape works

About an hour after the first crash, after I had peeled off, one bike hits sand/gravel on a twisty, goes down and wipes out a second bike. Both bike occupied by husband and wife teams. First bike down, both riders rashed badly but basically sound. Second bike hits first bike and cartwheels, tossing husband and wife...he has broken nose and torn rotator cuff, she has stitches in both knees and road rash from Hell...they are both out of the hospital now and safely home...both bikes trailered to Georgia.

Meanwhile, on the way to Savannah...separate and apart from our RT tour... another couple who are friends get hit by a jackass pulling an illegal u-turn...both go down on their separate bikes...he is okay, she got out of the hospital a few days later with a broken rib and punctured lung.

I rode home that Sunday with another fella that lives about an hour south of me, skipped RT this year...Tuesday, I took the bike in to have the light assembly repaired...figure no problem, get a new threaded stud, install good to go...nope...Yamaha no longer makes the part...fortunately my mechanic was able to rig something up and the lights be good as new

No one died, all will recover and Death was cheated...THANK GOD!

Glad you're still here to talk about it.

It seems that this riding season is not starting off very well nationwide.

Ditto. Took the money from selling my bike and bought a convertible. Still get the wind in my face, but much more comfort and actually find it a lot more fun than I found riding bikes to be.
