Howdy from Georgia 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Howdy, I'm Zebulon from Georgia, USA. I recently bought a '07 Road Star 1700, my first bike, but immediately started having trouble with it, ie, won't start. So I've spend the last week troubleshooting why I couldn't get it running. The forum has been a big help, and youtube of course. It only had 7100 miles on it, prior owner (my step dad) had let it set up for two years without draining or treating or winterizing. Pulled the carb off this weekend and have it in my shop, float was good n stuck, so cleaned out the float bowl with some carb cleaner, and am waiting on a new bowl o-ring and float pin to deliver so I can put her back together. Was a bit daunting at first, but some bits, like changing the spark plugs and pulling off the tank, are heckin lot easier than workin on my truck. Fun times. All this work, and I ain't even riden her yet. I'm chomping at the bit to ride, and already got so many ideas from all the posts in here on things I wanna change on it, like getting rid of the AIS and moving the fuel pump...or just going to grav feed. Anyway, that's me.

Hello Zebulon, I am in Tennessee now but I was born in Dublin, Georgia. (Shout out for Laurens County!) Good to have you here. If you are going back with the stock fuel pump I would suggest hooking a battery up to it and a long fuel line and pumping some fuel through it. (use real connectors not alligator clips so that you don't blow yourself and the bike up before you get to ride it). There is also a little filter in the inlet line between the fuel pump and carb. I have an 07 Road Star Silverado with only 6600 miles on it. I will tell you that the bike makes more noises than a bucket full of quarters and this is perfectly normal. LoL I was concerned about the noises but I have finally come to the reality that this just means it's running. it's not the fastest bike on the road but it rides almost exactly the same with my wife on the back as far as torque goes. it climbs the mountains here in Tennessee with or without her and feels strong enough to pull a trailer and still be fun. Good luck with your repairs and let me know how it's going. Joe
