Roadwing shock test 1 Year, 2 Months ago
|
|
So I've got my new Roadwing shock sitting on the bench and I'm trying to test the pump. I found the write up in "Tykes Place" for Roadwing install which looks to me to be very well written. In the procedure it says to use the wires to the pump and touch them to the battery and I should see the "Collar" move slightly. When I do this the pump sounds like it's working fine, but I'm not seeing any movement of the shock. I reverse the wires to make sure I'm not driving the pump to far and I still see nothing moving. What is the "Collar" the article refers to ? And should I be seeing something move? Or is the pump simply pumping fluid into the shock causing more or less resistance ?

I got it. The shock moves, but everything so slightly. It was difficult for me to see. Thx anyways.

The collar is the part that the hose connects to. Watch the shiny part that's around the main shock. The movement will be very slight. I think its total travel is less than 1/4. But you should see it move slowly. If not, then maybe you'd don't have it fully bled?
I'd also pull the inspection plate on the pump assembly to make sure the screw drive isn't jammed. If you pushed it too far in either direction then the screw drive may jam and it won't move the pump, and no hydraulics will move the pre-load collar.

Thanks Tykes,
Got it. Your right it was moving, but real slow. I guess I was expecting this huge movement in the shock assembly. The shock is like brand new and I couldn't really see it moving because of the lack of dirt or anything for reference. When I checked it out closer it was good.
Now to get the sleeve out of the shock. Tried pressing it out with my cheap little vise, and we know who won that battle. I'll try cutting it out.
Thanks again
Rob

And remember, it does not change the length of the shock or the height of the bike. It just changes the preload or stiffness of the shock.

12mm = 0.472441". I was off by 0.032441 inches. Just sayin'.

Ok, my turn now.
Where should the mouvement be between the collar and the shinny part?
Green arrow?
Red arrow?
Or under the black rubber: Yellow arrow

Thanks
