Re:Helmet fit question 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Having crashed multiple times and survived, and having worn full face helmets since the first 3/4 helmet I wore, I find it difficult to fathom why some, in the name of 'freedom' wear such flimsy 'social statements' known as 'novelty helmets'. I have one Shoei R1200 that I was wearing when I totaled my first cruiser, that I keep to remind myself as to just why I wear a full faced helmet. I have also discovered (the hard way) that helmets are manufactured for various head shapes. Personally, I think that those that don't wear helmets or wear those 'novelty' helmets aren't all there, but I resent a government telling me I HAVE to wear a helmet!
Buying something online, that you haven't found locally and tried on for fit and comfort( which requires extended wear)is much like playing the lotto. Most places (with a few exceptions) do not allow refunds once a garment (and a helmet is considered a garment in your case)has been worn- even once. If you are dead set to purchase the helmet you have referenced, please send me the money, as I can put it to better use.

This is where I might step in and defend Daveto, and ask why he is being bashed so hard for his personal taste. But I'm not gonna do that 'cause he asked, "what would you do?",and people are responding. So, I'm responding too..what I would do is not waste money on that helmet at all. In my opinion it's ugly and potentially dangerous. But then, that's how I feel about ALL helmets.

Side Note: If you ever want to stir up a hornet's nest on here, just start a thread about Religion, Politics, The Dark Side, or helmets and helmet laws. Be sure to solicit comments.

Leatherup.com also has free returns and a decent selection of gear.

Thx, I think I'm just gonna keep the 2 helmets I have. I appreciate the comments. I'll put my helmet money into the clutch fund and replace it all. Sorry to stir the pot. I to new here to know what's safe to post about. No hard feelings on my part and I hope I haven't offended anyone. Also I noticed that helmet says it's 10 lbs,, that seems extremely heavy.

Old coot that didn't have to wear a helmet and chose to some times. then I had to and it made me realize that, OK might as well get something decent. While its an absolute a full face helmet is the gold standard I can't stand the feel. I'm not claustrophobic but I ride to be in the wind. The 1/2 helmets are just plain stupid ass looking, I know I have one. However I figured out some time ago (for me) that a 3/4 helmet is the perfect thing. I get to be in the wind, I get the most coverage possible while doing so, I get to wear goggles like you should on a motorcycle (unless you are some kind of pussy). So yeah 3/4 for me and like me its a Rockhard model!

Im not sure if its available on Amazon, but they will also do returns if it doesnt fit correctly.

On a side note, Im in the "ride what you like, wear what you like" camp. If you like it and thats what you want dont worry about everyone elses opinion.

I'll weigh in of "fit" of helmets. Most say you have an Arai or Shoei head... Meaning, of those two major brands, one fits better than the other. That is just a starting point. Once you get into other brands, check fit before you buy to ensure the helmet doesn't roll off the front of your noggin if you pull on the back of the helmet towards the front. That should give you the best fit and most secure bucket for your brain matter, which is important to keep in good shape.

Re:Helmet fit question 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I bought a helmet last year from this place:
http://www.motorcyclegear.com/street/helmets_and_eyewear/
They have some good deals on Closeouts helmets and they have a sizing chart that compares most of the manufacturers by head shape and size.
http://www.lidpicker.com/
It's not perfect but it is better than nothing if you can't try on the helmet first. I wanted to try on the helmet first but found that many of the local motorcycle dealers went out of business and the ones still in business have limited helmet manufacturers in stock. With MotorcycleGear, I believe as long as you don't remove stickers and keep all of the original packing, you can return a helmet that doesn't fit. Plus many helmets you can buy different cheek pads if you in between sizes. Read their policy closely before you order so you know what you can or can't do.
