How to get rid of the rattle in the tank 9 Years, 9 Months ago
This thread discusses the Content article: How to get rid of the rattle in the tank

The article talks about two washers. One on each side of some unnamed something. And the illustration shows only one place. Can anyone clear this up for me.

I'm going to try it, because I have this rattle that sould like clacking of some kind under the tank, but since I have extremely low milage, I don't think it can be some kind of engine or valve problem.

It's the through bolt at the end of the tank. It's the same on both sides.

Sorry to be dense. I guess I'll just get two or three washers and put them wherever it makes sense (any metal on metal point).

Thanks. Believe it or not, I am pretty mechanical, just not much experience taking this bike apart.

Had the mechanic ride the bike. He said he had the tank tight, as he checked that. He has no idea where the noise is coming from, maybe the instrument cluster.

I wish my ear had been better attuned 10 years ago when it was new and under warranty. It's been there the whole time.

You know I had the same problem and it was driving me crazy. I was reaching everywhere while in the road to find the problem. I always thought it was a tank issue or a line under the tank. Nope!!! Next time you go out on the road reach up and grab the headlight ring!!! Fixed it by wrapping a layer or two of electrical tape under the ring and mounting the headlight back.
