Road Star Floorboards for the Vertically Challenged

First thing I noticed when I got my new Road Star was the uncomfortable position of the floorboards. The rear of the boards was too high, raising my heel and making the calf of my leg sore.

I know there are floorboard extensions that move the board forward and tilt it at an angle. But what about those of us that are under 6 feet tall? I am only 5’10” and have a 29” inseam. Well those extensions certainly won’t work for me. It’s like trying to reach the pedals of a 26” bicycle when I was 9 or 10 years old.

Well let me show you an idea that might work for you. It will take some grinding and an hour or two of your time.

1. First let me show you the position of the mounting holes on the floorboards. There are two 3/8” spacers welded to the back of the holes in the floorboard mounts.

It’s kind of a trick photo since I do not have a picture of the bracket before I removed the spacer.

2. The spacer on the rear hole must be removed without damaging the spacer. Grind the welds off and as close to the spacer as possible. You might have to use a chisel to break away the last part of the weld on the shoulder. Pic #2 shows the weld that has to be removed on the rear spacer.

3. Now with the spacer removed, elongate the hole with a round grinding stone, such as a Dremel or Rotary Pneumatic Grinder. (PIC #3)

4. Now you can install the floorboard and manually install the spacer behind the hole and screw the mounting bolt through the elongated hole, through the spacer in into the mounting threads. You can start to see the angle you can achieve in the picture. (PIC #4)

5. Now you can mount the boards and since the rear brake assembly on the right side and the shift mechanism on the left side there are clearances that might have to be adjusted to get the full tilt that you would like to achieve.

In the following pictures, (PIC #4 and PIC #5) will show the before and after.

The best I can tell is that you can achieve about a 15 to 20 degree tilt. AND IT DOESN’T COST A SINGLE PENNY.
