Slipons are well known for leaking at the joint. Use smoke to see if you have any leaks in those areas. Check the Barons website or other bike parts sites for the AIS removal kit.

Removing the AIS definitely helped reduce the popping with my Khrome Werks pipes. It happens when you swap with aftermarkets.

I also have an 08 with Roadhouse slip ons and had the AIS removed useing a Barons kit. They pop and back fire on hard decel even after the AIS was removed no one has been able to solve the problem, can't find any leaks and have been told that a power commander III by Power Commander will not help either.

I had a Suzuki that I put a full set of Cobra slash cut pipes on and a Cobra FI2000 that would not stay set and the bike ran like crap so removed the FI2000 and ran much better but still poped on decel, but Cobra would not refund my money without a great deal of hassle.

My point is it seems if you put after market pipes on an FI bike no matter what they are you are going to have problems of some kind, so I have learned to avoid a hard decel as much as possible and the bike runs and sounds great otherwise.

I have an 08 FI roadie with shogun exhaust. I haven't removed the AIS yet but I do have it disabeled. Have had no problems whatsoever with mine. I did have the popping and backfiring before disableing the AIS but that solved the problem.

thanks for the info. Is there a good post i could find showing how to just disable the AIS instead of removing? ALSO can anyone recommend a nice complete exhaust system and how will it work as far as the sensors go?

I have the Yamaha Speedstar long drag pipes (very loud )on my '08. They come with the O2 sensor bung (thingy that you screw the O2 sensors in to.) The pipes also came with an extension for one of the O2 sensor cable because the OEM cable is too short to reach the lower pipe.

need some help, i just purchased my 2008 Silverado S 1700, and I wanted to change out the factory pipes, with some that actually make noise, my problem is that i have heard several stories on what needs to be done to accomplish this, some say just install the pipes, others say I need new air filter, power commander, and other items totaling over $1000, I just want to know what I need to do to? without needing a second mortgage! thanks

Just put on the new pipes and take off the AIS. Make sure to maintain the 02 sensors.

You don't need an intake. And, you don't need a power commander.

The 08+ is probably the easiest to modify these days...
