Cutting baffles 6 Years, 3 Months ago
|
|
Been kinda bored the past couple of nights, so I decided to pull the baffles on my Freedom duals. I wanted to see for myself how it'd sound! It sounds "wicked nasty!" as in bad a$$ for you older gents! I think I woke up half my neighborhood this morn when I rode to work at 6am & I was barely putting along!
According to the seat dyno, it feels that I lost a little bottom end torque. I was wondering if I cut the baffles in half...so they'd be 8" in length as opposed to 15"...if that would help restore some of that lost bottom end. Would I have to tweak the PMS a bit too? Any input would help! I know Curt & some of you other members have some info on this! I've attached a photo of the baffle as well.
Thanks, Chris

I pulled mine out for a short ride and lost alot of my "get up and go" I think if you cut them back some you may just need a tweak on the screw.

I did just that with my V&H baffles... but, I went a step further to help flow... I welded a small thin walled pipe in the middle to add structure and help with flow. It fit perfectly to the ID of the baffle... a few tach welds and she was done... sounds awesome and I didnt loose any performance...

You can make your own Monster baffles. Go to the auto parts store and buy 4 tail pipe reducers that got from the diameter of your baffle ends (like 1 3/4" down to a smaller diameter (like 1 1/2" and weld the small ends together. Drill a hole in the 1/3 portion of them weld a metal rod with a washer welded on the end and you have your monster baffles for about $12.

Nice link! and the piece of pipe I welded in is not that long... I think I made it 3" long... still being able to let the baffle do what it is suppose to with the louvers punched in the sides... I like the idea of the tunable baffle too... think I may try that out as well...

i cut my vh longshot baffles to 4" total removing 12" of the baffle my personal opinion is that this is the perfect tone and torque range for me extremely loud while riding and fairly loud at idle, plus its a rocket at the twist of the wrist my set up is
Stock box with kn filter
PMS 3 turns
Jetting 167.5 with clip on 4th slot
Baffles 4" long
Ais removed
i get 38mpg around town and 44mpg on highway
