Jetting for BigBore kit? 2 Years, 7 Months ago
Hi guys, just trying to help a friend out, he's got an '00 RS 1600, and recently had the tranny recall done and according to him also had a "Big bore Kit", Samson pipes, "he's taken the baffles out", hes got one of Curts manifolds installed with the stock carb cover, Now, he would like to install an BAK air cleaner and jet kit and asked if "I" would do it for him, I said I wouldn't even try unless I asked for advise from the clinic, Im willing to help the guy out, but I don't want to screw the bike up because it does run NOW! Yikes, is there a jetting solution that would get me in the ball park? Or is it even possible, because according to him the motor is an "1800cc" now that the bore kit was installed??? Does that sound right? Help!

Do you know what jet kit? Let him know that the stock carb won't give him any of the benefit of the 110 Big Bore. He needs at least a HSR42.

Thanks

I'm not quite sure where to go with the jetting on the stock carb on a Big Bore but I'm sure that isn't gonna be correct with the Barons recommendation for a stock engine. I'm just guessing here but I would start with a main jet about a 175 or 180 45 pilot and 4th groove. Keep in mind this is just a shot in the dark trying to give it a little more fuel. It actually needs more fuel and air not just fuel.

Is it just me or is the idea of a shop doing a big bore kit while leaving stock jetting kind of ridiculous? Would things even run properly?

He might get it to run but not like it could if it had a proper carb on it. When I did my Big Bore I was waiting for pats for my HSR45 so I tried the stock carb. I had to leave the choke about 1/2 way out to get it to run even close to decent.
