Passing Lamps Wiring? 8 Years, 10 Months ago
|
|
My brother in law has got everything with my passing lamps ready to be installed on the bike. I had the passing lamps approx. 1 year ago and removed them and sold them. All the wires are already inside the headlight housing. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how difficult it will be to install the passing lamps and hook up all the wiring? Also I want to wire it up so that the passing lamps are on continuously, not only on low beams. Thanks in advance for all the help.

Gidday..easyrider003... I have a procedure at home from when I wired up my lights. The procedure makes provision for options of wiring lights to either high beam; or low beam (on all the time). It's a simple job mate.
If you don't get details you are seeking straight away, then let me know and I'll come back to you.
BTW... I keep a $2 test light at hand for when I don't have a wiring diagram and need to check circuits. For example: to help ID individual wires inside the headlight can.

Musky posted link you need.
In headlight you need a power source that is on when engine is running, On when Low beams are on and on when high beams are on. This way your Aux lamps are a backup when headlamp fails, On with both Hi and LO beams Or just by themselves. Use a tester with Bike running. Be sure to test that it does not have power with bike shut down. (Key Off) Or, you could leave the lights on by accident and drain your Battery. I did a how to on here but I can't find it.

Thanks Musky! I had my headlight out yesterday doing the sound/rattle supressing thing to it and I noticed this morning leaving for work that my passing lights wern't working. Screwed up something again! I will use your lighting instructions to chase the problem down.

Don't ya love it when you bust somethin fixin somethin else.
Make sure you didn't just hit the on / off switch on the passing lamp. You could spend a lot of time trying to fix the wiring and not get anywhere.
Not that I've ever done that. Just heard it happens.
