GAS GAUGE 7 Years, 11 Months ago
Has anyone had a problem with the gas gauge on a 2001 silverado not working. At first it would take a while after i filled up for the guage to go all the way to full. Now it does not work at all and the low fuel light flashes. Thanks

All roadies take a while to read full after a fill up. There's a dampener kinda thing goin on so the needle doesn't bounce when you're riding. If it flashing 8 times that means a sending unit problem. Before you do anything else disconnect the battery for a few hours. That might let the gauge it reset itself.

And if that doesnt work...I took mine apart and cleaned the contacts and it works like new again. Alot of the Roadies have that problem.

I have the same problem with my 01 roadie. I will try to disconnect the battery and see if that works. Otherwise I'll just go by the mileage.

I've had a similar problem with my 02 midnight star. When I took the sending unit out to test it, I found that the floater arm was loose. So the needle contacts would lose their connection. I tried tightening it, but am going to have to replace it. If you continue to have problems, and pull it out, make sure the arm isn't loose.
