dies when put in gear 6 Years, 5 Months ago
Ok guys, Ive got an 05 Roadstar that does not want to cooperate. The bike dies every time it is put into gear. I can start it in neutral but once its put in first it dies. I've already bypassed the kickstand switch, as well as the switch on the clutch handle. What should I look for?

I would Check both switches and make sure that the bypass connections are working proper. Can't think of much else it could be.

It's gotta be one of those connections. If you don't mind me asking, why did you bypass those?

Re:dies when put in gear 6 Years, 5 Months ago
I bypassed those switches because I read on here that they may be the problem. The kickstand switch is currently just snipped inline and the two wires are tied together. The clutch switch is disconnected at the plug, and I have tried leaving it open and jumping the two wires together, neither way works. I don't want to leave the switches disconnected if they are kot the problem, but for troubleshooting issues I messed with them. The only thing I can think of trying is finding a loose ground. The bike did sit for 3 years, but I don't see any signs of damage in the way of mice, so I doubt a wire has been chewed on. I'm at a loss on this one now

When was the oil changed. Your clutch plates could be sticking together.
let it run alittle and work the clutch lever to see if that helps. Just a thought.

Just changed the oil a few days ago. Ive had the bike get up to temp 3 times since yesterday just idling, each time playing with the clutch. They dont seem to be sticking, since they dont make the clunk sound everyone has described. the bike just dies, doesnt seem to be a mechanical issue with how it acts, from my experience its gotta be electrical
