Popping on decel... 2 Years, 3 Months ago
Yesterday, I installed a pair of cobra slash cuts.

When I took off the standard pipes, there were these little gold thingies that look like sensors. One in each pipe. They were attached to a wire. I unscrewed them from the pipes and just left them hanging.

When I decel, I get massive popping. I assume it's because of the AIS. I have purchased a Barons kit to remove AIS. I also assume that the little gold sensors are part of the AIS system. So, once removed and plugged up properly, the popping should cease?

Also, will the little gold things come off when I remove the AIS or are they something different?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Those are O2 sensors for your fuel injection. You need them.

Stop what you are doing right now and take a break! Research more before you continue. What year bike? Gold things in headers or mufflers? Not any part of the AIS that I can think of. If you have a FI bike, it sounds like you removed the O2 sensors. They need to be reinstalled. Then get rid of the AIS properly.

You have pipes for a carbed bike. You need pipes with the bungs in them for your O2 sensors.

The sensors were in the exhaust pipes.

Ok, first I'll look more closely and see if there are inputs in the new pipes. I didn't see any, but I didn't look real hard. I dismissed them. Lol. Sounds like a bad move.

If there is no place to insert the O2 sensors, it sounds like the smart move is to put my stock pipes back on, and get the right kind of pipes for my bike.

I have a 2013 R* Silverado S. The manufacturer said these pipes fit my bike, so I just assumed they were the right pipes for my bike.

I'll check tomorrow. Got absolutely nothing to do tomorrow, so this is perfect.

Also, I'm new to all this, so sorry if that's a rookie move. I'm bold though. Not afraid to work on my bike. It's a lot of fun learning. Just don't want to screw anything up.

Thanks.

If you removed the o2 sensors and bought new pipes that cannot be returned for the correct ones, you can also ask here if anyone has a fuel controller they will let go cheap (I know a few of these guys have them sitting on the shelf). You will have to mess with it to get it set anywhere near correct but after installing it you will not need the o2 sensors. I personally recommend getting the correct pipes but this is just another option.

When you get all that sorted out and get around to removing the AIS and block off the head ports this is all of the AIS parts left over after removed.

Do not remove and discard the voltage regulator (finned box) right Infront of it as another member did. That stays.

If you cannot return the pipes, or if you simply still want to use them, take them to an exhaust shop and have o2 sensor bungs welded into them.

Thanks. I bought them on CL. The woes of a beginner. I guess I didn't know what to look for. I'll just resell them. Should be able to get my money back.

Thanks for this. I'll refer back to it once I get my Barons kit.

One thing for sure, I'll never make this mistake again.
