AIS Removal and Fuel Problems 11 Years, 4 Months ago
Did my AIS removal this weekend. Man, all that stuff coming off reminded me of an old Mad Magazine cartoon about some quack doctor taking stuff out of some poor guy.

Obviously had to take the tank off. Call me new or stupid or both, but did not realize this would put lots of air into the fuel system. Took her for a ride yesterday. Had trouble starting and staying started - figured is was just from the cold (got down to low 30's night before).

Finally got on the road and she cut off before leaving the 'hood. Once I got going there was all kinds of hesitation and almost no power. I am thinking " Oh man, what did I forget to hook back up?!". Actually died once on the road.

After a few miles there was a big fit of coughing and sputtering, then all of a sudden the power picked up and everything has been fine since. I am assumimng this was due to air in the fuel system.

So.... 2 reasons for the post. Do you guys also think it was air in the fuel system, and if this is the case, just passing along the symptoms to anyone else doing some work that requires removing the tank.

Hmmm .... I've taken my tank off numerous time and I don't remember have 'problems' for 'a few miles".

If it doesn't happen again then I guess it was just air.

You did seal off the nipple on the carb?

Took mine off also but never had a problem, but I didnt remove the tank. I just plugged the vacum line and pushed it up under the tank. Worst part was taking off the fuel pump to put the plate on the rear jug. And that was no big deal. Hopefully you've heard the last from it.

That's a relief. No one likes leaking nipples.

Amazing how these discussions always start at one level, and just sink down from there..............
