meters pegged out and lights flickering 7 Years, 11 Months ago
Hello,
I haven't ridden much lately because I have been on travel. So I took an a long ride today, about 90 miles one way. I was on the highway most of the ride doing between 65 and 80. When I exited I noticed my speedometer was at 70 while I was going 35 or so. And the fuel gauge was pegged too. I visited family for a couple hours and then headed home for another 90 mile ride. Everything was normal at the start. About an hour into the ride the same thing happened. I only noticed the gas meter peg out. Not sure about the speedometer cause I was doing around 75 again. The lights on the speedometer were blinking too. My headlights and turn lights seemed fine. I was worried being on the highway. Anyone have any ideas?

A short somewhere. Loose connection. Corrosion someplace. If it didn't do it when you parked it I would think moisture / corrosion in a connector.

Had a similar situation on a poker run last year. Ground cable at the battery was loose. Tightened it up and all was good.

Similar problem with my '05 R*. It was just corroded battery cables, especially the ground cable. Cleaned the cables and all is fine.

I thought I had found it. The negative cable was a little loose. I tightened it but didn't take it for a ride right away. Yesterday I rode it and noticed my gas guage was pegged when it was half full...so i'll check for corrosion. Thanks.
